Pesticide Monitoring and Management Guidance Document launched by TIPWG

Jacqui Meyer, TIPWG Coordinator

The Pesticide Monitoring and Management Guideline produced by FSA’s Timber Industry Pesticide Working Group (TIPWG), provides a comprehensive framework for the responsible use, monitoring, and control of pesticides within the Forestry Sector.

It covers the full lifecycle of pesticide management, from storage and issuance to application monitoring and container disposal,
with the aim of improving cost efficiency, ensuring environmental compliance and promoting sustainable forest management practices. It addresses key operational challenges such as the management of remote stores, differentiation of responsibilities between in-house and contracted teams, and
the consistency of data capture and staff training. Practical tools and procedures are provided to standardise stock control, monitor application quality, and assess pesticide use trends. The guideline also underscores the responsible disposal of chemical containers through regulated waste services and promotes the use of digital platforms to enhance traceability and reporting.

Please note: As an FSA TIPWG Guidance Document this is not a regulatory or certification requirement, it is a knowledge transfer document from FSA to benefit its members.
