TIPWG newsletter March/April: Tourism, transport and climate change – an invasive species best friend
A study published in Global Change Biology presents the results of an expert survey on how likely global trends this century will affect the variety of life on Earth, its ecosystems and – as a result – the lives of humans.
Perhaps, unsurprisingly, the increase in the spread of non-native plants and animal species predicted due to increasing levels of global transport, tourism and climate change. The potential impact of this could be catastrophic and could lead to a dramatic biodiversity loss that will cause permanent damage to ecosystems as they are pushed past their biological tipping point.
